The other thing to do

The other thing to to, around here, on the first weekend day that is over 65, is go to North Beach in Burlington. Well, if you are a student at UVM, that is what you do. On the first Saturday that is really warm (today was 75), in an unspoken agreement, all UVM kids truck over to North Beach on lake champlain and hang out. Kindly police officers tend to ignore the drinking, and kegs soaking in the lake.

Spring skiing!

This isn't a skiing blog, I promise! It is just that here, at the end of winter, we finally got enough snow, and I have been a little obsessed. I admit it. Today, it is 75 degrees in Vermont, in my neck of the woods, and that means spring skiing! Everyone, including me is out in the sun, and the warmth, wearing all kids of crazy clothing combos to accommodate the weather. This may be the end of the snow, or maybe not, but it is a glorious day to be on the slopes!

Snow, snow and more snow

In the north country, we have been blessed with amazing amounts of snow in the end run of this winter. It has been snowing almost every day (we won't speak of that nasty rain just the other day) and I am thrilled. However, I noticed that the light has shifted, and suddenly, despite the snow and temperatures, I can feel the incoming Spring. In a few days, it is supposed to be in the high 50's, which around here means some people will be wearing shorts. This thing is, the thing that really made me feel spring-ish was the appearance of these snowdrops, popping up near the stone wall. Such a happy sight!

The Stowe Derby day

Yesterday was the Stowe Derby, which is a cross country ski race from the top of Mount Mansfield, to the town of Stowe, VT. The race is about 20K of all kids of terrain and some amazing downhill runs down the Toll Road on the mountain. I did the race again this year, and with the 36" of new snow it was fantastic. The course had been altered due to lack of snow a few days before the race, and couldn't be changed back, but it was a great adventure, none-the-less. Now I won't pretend that I place anywhere in the competition, I just do it for fun, and tradition, and to meet a lot of great people. The after party was a hoot too!

Snow day!

I had great ambition to get into writing this blog today-after all, it has been almost two months since I started it, but then, the snow began. Finally. It snowed more than 24" in Stowe. Off I went to enjoy winter's bounty. It was an amazing day on the mountain, with everyone in great spirits and really getting out in it. That's what makes Vermonters happy! Now it is time for making chili and having a glass of wine. The perfect way to end a day on the slopes. I hope your day was a grand!

It's a new year!

This is my very first post on the very first day of my blog. My dream for this, is to show things I like, talk about my views and thoughts, all through the lens of a Vermonter.
